Yet another test. I doubt I'll do any further testing, even though I have a couple of cameras left to go because I've pretty much learned what I needed to learn.
I completed another roll of the Kodak Max 400 (expired 3/2007) yesterday and took it to the CVS in Seabrook. The test camera was a Nikon F4 of the 's' variety (dang that camera is heavy!) and a couple of lenses, a Tokina AT-X 280AF and a Micro-Nikkor 200 mm f/4.0 IF. The main thing I needed to check was the meter on the F4, as well as continuing the scanning testing.
This is a handheld shot using the Tokina lens set at 80mm.
I am overall pleased with the image, at higher resolution there is detail in the flower petals, even though the overall contrast in the photo is very high. As well, the 'hair' on the leaves and stalk are sharp and crisp.
Next up is an image shot using the Micro-Nikkor with a tripod. The wind was really blowing hard yesterday, making it tough for a macro photograph. This flower is in a hanging basket that we purchased at Maas Nursery. Again I was please, particularly with the range of colors and the 'bokeh', which is the out of focus area in the background. You can easily see the very shallow depth of field, even though the shot was made at f11. That is just the way that it is in macrophotography.
I suppose I should comment on the customer service at CVS-Seabrook. Even though they advertise one hour service, don't expect it. When you drop the roll off, they will try to get you to pick it up the next day. If you tell them one hour, they'll say two. For my first roll, it took them 4 and a half hours, the last half hour with me impatiently waiting at the counter. The same thing happened yesterday, I dropped it off at 1 pm, they asked for 3 pm, I agreed, arrived at 3:15 pm, not ready. The person behind the counter recognized me from Sunday, stopped what she was doing and finished the scan (the processing was already completed) and CD, then gave it to me for no charge. Hopefully, my experience was not the normal one.
Next up, I'll talk about the differences I've seen between digital and film, link to guys that have already discussed that in detail and maybe even take some real pictures!
