The slippery downslope gets steeper as America continues its fall into the abyss:
A federal judge Wednesday ordered a St. Johns County elementary school to not have students rehearse a religious-themed song once scheduled for a year-end assembly.

The preliminary injunction against rehearsing country group Diamond Rio's "In God We Still Trust" says the lyrics "take aim at one [of] our nation's fundamental principles: the separation of church and state."

U.S. District Judge Harvey Schlesinger concluded that "the public interest is well served in preventing the coercion of third-grade students to participate in a state sponsored performance that endorses such an opinion."
Get that? The 'public interest' is well served in banning a song from an elementary school with these lyrics:
You place your hand on His Bible, when you swear to tell the Truth
His name is on our greatest Monuments, and all our money too,
And when we Pledge allegiance, there's no doubt where we stand,
There is no separation, we're one Nation under Him.

Chorus:
In God We Still Trust
Here in America
He's the one we turn to every time
The goin' gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust

Now there are those among us, who want to push Him out,
And erase His name from everything, this country's all about,
From the Schoolhouse to the Courthouse, they're Silencing His Word,
Now it's time for all Believers, to make our Voices heard.

In God We Still Trust,
Here in America
He's the one we turn to every time
The goin' gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust

Here in America
Here in America
Here in America,

In God We Still Trust
Here in America,

In God We Still Trust
Here in America

All three major religions in the U.S. could lay claim to that song. Objectionable? Hardly and only to the most hard-core radicals that wish to distance our country from its foundation. Please note that I am NOT saying that our teachers should be teaching any form of religion, that isn't my point at all. My point is that we have become so afraid of ANY reference to a deity that people freak out over the most innocuous references.

I really enjoyed this comment from the comments section of the linked article:

I remember singing God Bless America each morning in elementary school.  Today they have tossed out any mention of the word God, and replaced him with the Gay & Lesbian club.  The school nurse no longer is allowed to dispense an aspiran, but hands out condoms.  They replaced the teaching of the ABC's, with STD's.  Glad I was born when I was.  Now it is off to McDonalds, where the kids can no longer make change without a machine to tell them what to do.
Yup. Well, it isn't banned here. Enjoy.
